NEW: Back Bay Yoga Union Teacher Development program

In March and April 2024, we are opening two of our 300-Hour weekends as continuing education models for working teachers and graduates of 200-Hour trainings who are looking to refine their teaching, gain new skills, and open new avenues study for themselves and their students.

These experiential learning modules are designed to be instantly applicable in your classes and practice. We know from experience that keeping things fresh with new information and new tools is crucial to building a meaningful and lasting connection with your students, which in turn is how you grow your following.

Come spend a weekend or two in study, get your Yoga Alliance continuing education credits, and build your professional community.

The Back Bay Yoga teacher training program with its unique 200- and 300-Hour dual-track format has graduated some of the most sought after teachers in Boston and beyond. They are working in studios all over the greater Boston area, teaching at major gyms and fitness institutions, building robust online businesses and even opening their own studios.

TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM OVERIVEW

200-Hour Foundational Teacher Training

a 6-MOnth program focused on Practice, Theory, Community and Discovery

Structure, flow and soul are the core of this foundational yoga training program. Instructures share love of the practice, varied backgrounds, and deep expertise providing a rich backdrop for exploring the practices of yoga in this Yoga Alliance Registered Program.

Each weekend gathering will include advanced level practice, posture labs, lectures and experiential learning as you discover the richness of the practice, and the power of your voice. You will get your questions answered and be lovingly challenged to take the next steps in your practice and your life.

Format is 1-2 weekends per month, over six months.


- BIPOC SCHOLARSHIPS -

Back Bay Yoga Union is committed to increasing representation of BIPOC teachers and students in yoga spaces. We encourage diverse students with an interest in teaching to apply for a studio-sponsored scholarship to defray Teacher Training tuition. Inquire by email, with questions, application process will be announced in early spring.


300-Hour Advanced Teacher Training

A 9-MONTH PROGRAM FOR THOSE seeking a deep course of study to refine and develop their skills

Personalized Mentoring - Study in small mentoring groups with your teachers, to personalize your course of study and go in depth on the topics that inspire you the most!

Student Teaching and Small Group Leadership - Take the lead with 200-Hour trainees, learn how to teach teachers.

Experienced Teachers- Directed by Tim Kelleher, and co-taught with senior trainer Caitlyn Visconte, Emily Jonas, Erica Bornstein and Sandy Klemmer. Explore specialized content with Union teachers who are experts in their fields, Amanda Dulberg will lead you through the important work of social justice and racial equity in yoga spaces.

Virtual Classroom - Stay connected and deepen your studies with dedicated online classroom space. Bonus content, assignments and asynchronous learning will take place here.

Our 300-hour Yoga Alliance Registered program is an innovative model of mixed-level learning, small group study and student teaching and mentoring.

In addition to an illuminating course of study, the 300-hour cohort will gain real time experience in the seat of the teacher as you work with student teachers as mentors.

The format is 1-2 weekends per month, over 9 months, the first six, together with the 200-hour training cohort.

YOGA TEACHER TRAINING: What You’ll Learn

  • Learn the structure for all major poses, along with alignment and modifications. Explore more advanced postures in your practice and teaching along with therapeutics.

  • Refine your teaching perspective, define your voice, and work on classroom management. Gain experience working with newer teachers, and develop the leadership skills to host trainings of your own.

  • Learn Pranayama, Restorative Practices and the Subtle Body. Become familiar with the practice of slowing down.

  • Learn reliable, repeatable methods for creating classes that will challenge and inspire your students.

  • How did we get from meditative practices in ancient India to Hot Power Flow in Boston in 2022 and how do we honor the roots of the practices while bringing awareness to cultural appropriation?

  • Study the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita with both classical and modern lenses. Dive deeply into the philosophy and practice weaving dharma into your teaching

  • Learn to build your brand and raise your digital profile. Develop workshops and content offerings to find the right mix of revenue streams and succeed in a competitive marketplace.

  • Explore how yoga philosophy and social justice are inexorably linked, Conceptualize and complete a social justice and community focused Seva (Service) project
